Welcome to James Weldon Johnson College Prep Middle School.
You have choosen to be a part of a school that is steeped in the tradition of Jacksonville Florida.
You can expect an academic rigor that will prepare you for the City's TOP High Schools,
but you can also expect to tap into your creative side with expanded projects that make learning a new subject FUN!
Here's a few things that will help you start the new year off on the right foot:
- Orientation dates are August 7 & 8 - 2008.
- A generalized supply list can be found HERE. Specfic teacher supply requirements will be handed out in on the first day of school.
- Lockers are assigned out when a student RENTS a lock from the school. The cost is $5. Bring cash or a cashiers' check during orientation to get your lock.
- 7th graders are required to show proof of vaccinations to get their class schedules.
- Bus Transportation - you can find out your bus schedule HERE or you can call 858-6200.
- Car Riders - please drop off and pick up students on 9th street (front of the school). The back entrance off Spires is reserved for Bus Traffic.
- An agenda is handed out to all students the first day of class. It is important to keep the agenda up to date - successful JWJ students are able to handle the academic rigor better when everything is written down.
- Most teachers utilize School Notes to post their assignments and deadline. When you visit School Notes, just type in 32209 as the zip and locate the teacher. Some teachers have other sites they post their assignments at - they will let you know where to find them usually in the first week of school.
- Gym Uniforms - Yes, JWJ students have to "dress out" to get credit for participating in P.E. The offical uniform is a gray t-shirt and kelly green basketball shorts. Coaches will have logo'd Uniforms available for purchase at orientation and during class for $11.
- If you have concerns about your student's progress, contact Guidance for a Team Teacher Conference. This is the fastest & most effective way to get an overall view of how your student is handling the rigor of JWJ.
- Daily school issues, transportation and displinary concerns are handled by the Assistant Principals. JWJ has 3 APs that are assigned to handle specific grades.
- Student tardies, early dismissal, and appointment checkouts are handled through Student Services. Parents / Guardians are required to show picture ID when picking up a student.
- There will be no early pickups allowed after 2:45pm.
